From Anne’s album Points of View

A red-tailed hawk turns to face the snow
hearing the flock of winter wrens below
she spreads her wings, lifting to the west
winter storm, brings little rest

Roll, rivers, roll and sing their endless song
like the veins of coal, stretching wide and long
Susquehanna unfurling on her right
winter storm, snow fallen night
moving forward through Pennsylvania

The trees are bare and glisten with the ice
she’s in the air, circling once or twice
she sees the road, the rivers, and the land
winter storm, a cold command
moving forward through Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s rivers fast
Pennsylvania’s mountains pass

And I am here, watching as she flies
inside the storm, sharing darker skies
a tiny flame burning with the light
winter storm, our fragile flight
moving forward through Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s rivers fast
Pennsylvania’s mountains pass
and the seasons see
the red tail sweep
the clouds away
moving forward through Pennsylvania
